The 2024 World Championship Gliding Contest made Live Oaks B&B home-base for its Administrators, Businessmen & Pilots!

Gliders prepare for takeoff at Uvalde Airport

What an honor to have the Director of this momentous Championship Event and his entire admin team choose Live Oaks B&B as home base during the big 3 week event! Uvalde is one of a few of the very best locations in the world for gliders to fly long and high due to the heat thermals produced during our hottest month of August. The glider pilots must complete the flight tasks assigned to them in competitions, and Uvalde offers a wonderful place for pilots from all over the world to gather and compete. The WORLD competition only takes place every 5 years, and Live Oaks B&B was booked 2.5 years in advance for this event, as it is a perfect home away from home, and also near enough to Uvalde's airport for excellent convenience.

Some of the pilots or crew members came in their RV's and had a great place to park here on the property at our mini 4 site RV park. Everyone gathered in the main house for the made to order delicious breakfasts provided each and every morning. We don't usually offer breakfast for extended stays, but made a special exception for our friends and associates involved in this sensational event, which was also a big economic boost for a small town such as ours.

Honored to be concierge hosts for the Canadians!

In addition to hosting the event’s administrators at the B&B, my husband and I were honored to perform the role of concierge hosts for the Canadian glider team! Two pilots and four ground crew members made up the team representing our neighbor and inspiring country of Canada. Each were a joy to meet and accompany at social events given in their honor, and show them some real southern hospitality! My husband Nathan is a native born Canadian, which made this role a little closer to our hearts, and easy to forge new friendships we will always treasure.
